Our main achievements
2009/2010
- Andy Griifiths worked with us for 3 months, based at Greenham Community Centre. Summer Holiday Activities introduced 5 days a week at Nightingales and Pigeons Farm estates. Funding for Youth Council residential training course secured.
2008/2009
- £24,000 secured from the National Foundation for Youth Music to purchase new recording equipment and to bring professional musicians to the Internet Cafe on a regular basis for 18 months. As part of the BG:Wired project 2 'music trainees' will be trained up to take over running the project.
- French Exchange: members of the Youth Council linked with Young People from a part of Alencon, France that is also experiencing regeneration. We hosted young people from Centre Paul Gauguin, for 1 week, staying in log cabins in the New Forest and made the return journey to France staying at a hostel in Saint Generei for 1 week.
- In partnership with Greenham Common Trust, West Berkshire Council and Sovereign Housing Association, we agreed to expand our successful model of community youth work into nearby Greenham, which is recognised as the most deprived area in West Berkshire.
2007/2008
- In partnership with the Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, and all local agencies, we produced a master plan for the Beech Road Open Space, to include improvements that can take place now and those that will have to wait until the end of the regeneration work. Implemented and managed work to provide new Teen Shelter, Multi-use goal area with Astroturf, new pathway, bins, benches and landscaping
£14682 secured from Vodafone UK Foundation
£14682 secured from Greenham Common Trust - Youth Council re-launched for a new generation. Residential training course held at Calshot Activities Centre.
- Football Foundation funded a 3 year football project which provides local volunteers with FA Coaching Qualifications and experience of working alongside professional coaches. At the end of the 3 years our volunteers will have the qualifications, and experience to continue the project in the long term.
2006/2007
Sentinel Housing Association began the phased regeneration of Ashlands Estate and our work became focused on providing activities that divert young people from the dangers of an active building site.
- Holiday Scheme expanded to open 5 days a week during Summer, Autumn and Winter School Holidays.
- Secured £5586 from the Local Network Fund enabled us to set up and run an after school club for 1 year
- Vodafone UK Foundation provided £3000 for additional IT equipment and £5700 for additional staffing costs.
- Secured £4130 from Sports Relief to deliver a programme of sporting activities during school holidays.
2005/2006
Borough Council opens New Village Hall with exclusive Youth Room.
- Delivered Visual art projects to promote a sense of ownership of the new Village Hall.
- Delivered DJ Course to train young people in skills that were to be used at the new Village Hall's launch party.
- Secured £6912 from Local Network fund to establish a Parent and Toddler Group
- Bare Youth Room transformed into an Internet Café as a mini social enterprise for young people.
£7000 grant from the Local Network Fund secured for equipment
£10,000 grant from Nestle's 'Path to Excellence' Scheme, to extend opening hours.
2004/2005
- Members of the Youth Council receive assertiveness training at the Watermill Theatre2 members participate in the talls ship race from Antwerp to Aalborg.
- 1 week 'Motorwise' Road Safety Course held.
- Secured £4940 from the National Lottery to regularly bring professional football coaches to the club.
- Significant reduction in antisocial behaviour / juvenile nuisance / criminal damage noted by residents and confirmed by Police
- Members of the Youth Council make choices about how to make full use of the proposed exclusive Youth Room in plans for a new Village Hall.
2003/2004
- Secured £4978 grant from Nestle's 'Make Space Campaign' enabled us to improve the resources at Youth Club.
- Secured £4960 grant from the local Network fund enabled us to launch a Youth Council with 2 residential training courses.
- Youth Council established and members begin to engage in local decision making.
2002/2003
- Trustees registered Bishops Green Youth Project as a Charity.
- Ian Green appointed as a full time Youth Worker.
- Team of volunteers recruited.
- Launched a programme of activities for young people 4 nights a week during term time.
- Ran activities 5 days a week during Summer School Holidays.
- 1 week 'Motorwise' Road Safety Course held.
